2006: the 15th anniversary of the creation of the Espace Georges Brassens.
A singer and a poet, Georges Brassens was born in Sète in 1921.
Accompanied by his guitar, he sang of friendship, brotherhood and love, as well as death, hypocrisy, and man's pettiness.
He who sang "Supplique pour être enterré sur une plage de Sète" (Plea to be buried on the beach in Sète) now has a museum dedicated to him there, the Espace Brassens.

<p>Georges BRASSENS (1921-1981):
The simplicity of Georges Brassens has made him one of the most loved artists in the history of French culture. His impertinent yet never offensive repertoire paints a pitiless yet tender portrait of his contemporaries. His songs are still reinterpreted today by innumerable artists the world over, and his lyrics are studied in schools.
Georges Brassens is still a widely appreciated and celebrated artist throughout the French-speaking world. This man with the famous moustache was a generous and humanistic creator, and holds a special place in the memory of the people of Sète and in that of his fans.
The Espace Georges Brassens:
A museum that comes alive with new techniques in image and
sound. As the visitor walks through the exposition equipped with
stereophonic headphones, the voice of Georges Brassens himself
guides him through and tells the story of his life and work. At the
end of the visit, a series of hitherto unseen films and recitals are
presented in the video room.

Place aux jeunes en quelque sorte.
Juste au bord de la mer à deux pas des flots bleus,
Creusez si c'est possible un petit trou moelleux,
Une bonne petite niche.
Auprès de mes amis d'enfance, les dauphins,
Le long de cette grève où le sable est si fin,
Sur la plage de la corniche..."
