60% Grenache 30% Syrah 10% Mourvèdre
Following the success of our Cabernet-Merlot, this latest addition to the Les Jamelles "Sélection Spéciale" range, a Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend, is a serious, concentrated, thoroughly Mediterranean wine with excellent ageing potential. The Grenache and Syrah grapes come from a terroir near Perpignan while the Mourvèdre grapes come from slopes along the coast near Narbonne. This Special Selection wine is vinified with the greatest possible care.
The grapes are harvested by hand. They undergo a long, temperature-controlled maceration, except for a small proportion of the Grenache grapes which are vinified using carbonic maceration. The wines begin their ageing process in vats where malolactic fermentation takes place. They are then transferred to oak barrels where they remain for about 9 months. (The duration is determined by regular tastings). The wines are then racked manually and carefully blended. They remain in the tanks for a few more weeks until the ageing process is complete and are bottled without being filtered.
- Appearance: Attractive dark red colour. - Nose: Complex and very intense scents ("garrigue" mixed with charcoal, fruits preserved in alcohol, spices and fine wood). - Taste: This is a rich wine, round, long and concentrated with powerful, yet mature tannins that are very silky on the finish. Despite its strength, it is very expressive and well-balanced. On the palate, aromas of fruit spirits are combined with liquorice tastes tinged with violet flavours (reminiscent of "Zan" liquorice sweets). The well-rounded finish is focused on concentrated notes of fine wood (cedar) and mixed spices accompanied by lovely roasted notes.
The wine in this G.S.M. (GRENACHE-SYRAH-MOURVEDRE) blend comes from an exceptional terroir in the Pays d'Oc - hillside slopes with poor soils located in the heights of the Pyrénées Orientales. For the Grenache and Syrah, we have selected old vines (over 50 years old) from the Maury region, on the stony plateaux to the west of Perpignan. In this region, Grenache grapes were traditionally used to produce red Vins Doux Naturels (similar in character to port wines). The wind and sunshine (this is the sunniest part of France) concentrate the grapes naturally. The Mourvèdre grapes come from vineyards located on the Mediterranean coast near Narbonne, very close to the "La Clape" appellations, which gives them their uniqueness. Yields are naturally very low.
This wine may be cellared for at least 3 to 5 years. The recommended serving temperature is between 18 and 20°C (decant the wine and leave it at room temperature for an hour or so before serving it). It goes well with sauced meats, Mediterranean style dishes prepared with herbs and olives, marinated game, as well as with cheeses made with goat's or ewe's milk.
