100% Grenache Gris
Grenache Gris is a varietal that is not widely grown in the Languedoc. It is unique in that it yields grape berries with a slightly pale pink colour - which is the case for very few varietals! Moreover it produces wines that are very pale in colour with grey highlights. This is why we gave the name "Clair de Gris" (light grey) to this new addition to the Les Jamelles range. Originating from our own vines that grow along the Canal du Midi, near Ouveillan, north of Narbonne, our latest cuvée is a rosé that is sure to be a pleasant surprise to wine lovers for its complexity, subtlety and elegance!
The grapes are picked very early in the morning. They are pressed immediately, as a winery and press are installed in the middle of the vineyard during the harvest so that skin contact is kept as short as possible to be able to obtain very pale colour. The grapes are pressed using a state-of-the-art pneumatic press that yields very pale, fruity juice. Then comes slow fermentation at low temperatures to preserve the wine's olfactory purity and achieve perfect balance on the palate.
Very delicate floral aromas of rose, red berries (raspberry), a touch of citrus, and gun flint which gives this elegant rosé a certain minerality on the nose that is echoed in the mouth. On the palate, the wine starts off clean and fruity with lovely tension and minerality. This is a well-balanced wine with gorgeous length, finishing on a saline note, which leaves a very fresh impression in the mouth.
The grapes come from our own vineyards, which are located in the commune of Ouveillan, halfway between the Black Mountains and the Mediterranean coast. The soil is composed of limestone and clayey silt, and contains shingle. The soil gets very hot during the summer. Thanks to an irrigation system, we are able to maintain a certain coolness around the roots, which guarantees lovely balance between sugar and acidity.
Serve chilled as an aperitif with tapas, or throughout a summer meal made up of vegetables, whether marinated (eggplant, peppers) or served as fritters or tempura (zucchini flowers, eggplant, calamari or prawns), aïoli - poached vegetables and cod with garlic mayonnaise, grilled fish or prawns, chicken with tarragon, caramelized onion tart or a pizza. And why not try it with a prawn risotto?
